Jon MacNair works exclusively in India ink on paper. He is a meticulous observer of his craft as well as a creative genius. During his early year as a professional artist (it’s genuinely hard to believe he isn’t an art world veteran when looking at his portfolio) he has constructed a multi-layered, infinitely compelling alternate world filled with an array of recurring characters. Those who are intimately familiar with his paintings are able to plot a narrative through each series based on an understanding of the genesis and story of each. Those who are seeing it for the first time are offered a snippet of something much grander, a breadcrumb which might lead them into a fantastical landscape if only they’re willing take that first step. The narrative of this new body of work expands on the concentric circle imagery of previous series.
