Little Utopias
The way society, culture and attitudes to the environment have been heading over the past few years, as well as the current political climate, have created something of a renaissance for speculative and dystopian fiction writers. As a sharply analytical fiction writer Margaret Atwood has produced a number of amazing works across various genres throughout her career, but is perhaps best known for The Handmaid’s Tale and The MaddAddam trilogy.
Little Utopias is our group show tribute to living legend who has demonstrated a brilliant ability to look at the more troubling aspects of the world around her and determine where those problems might lead us. Through her writing she portrays people in their most genuinely flawed and sincerely vulnerable while never losing sight of those who maintain a sense of moral obligation as our guiding lights.
“Our problem right now is that we’re so specialized that if the lights go out, there are a huge number of people who are not going to know what to do. But within every dystopia there’s a little utopia.”
-Margaret Atwood
