David’s latest series represents an evolution in terms of both painting style and subject matter. The works are inspired the changing perspective which the artist experienced due to his world becoming smaller as a result of a pandemic. As travel and socializing gave way to a quieter existence where more every day activities and the details of your immediate environment become emphasized. A lot of the reference photography was captured during walks with his dog, around the Portland neighborhood where David lives. In terms of his practice David approached these paintings with a different process to his previous works. A particular focus was given to making sure the composition and color exploration was dialed in at the drafting stage to allow the artist to enjoy more freedom in the painting process.
